Fender Mike Landau

I’ve got to say I really don’t understand someone wanting a guitar that looks and feels like an old guitar, I used to think they were kind of cool but at the end of the day if I buy a new guitar I want it to be totally pristine and not a single blemish. What is interesting about the new Fender Mike Landau is that he is now using Fender pickups. Suhr have been producing a single coil pickup originally called the FL which were later renamed to ML pickups when Fletcher stopped using them so it seems they no may have to undergo yet another name change unless Landau is going to continue to use the pickup in his other guitars. Here is the full press release from Fender about the Fender Custom Shop Michael Landau Signature 1963 Relic

The Fender Custom Shop is pleased to announce the release of the Fender Mike Landau guitar. As part of the Fender Custom Shop Artist Collection, this Signature Model joins the likes of other great artist models from Jeff Beck, Dick Dale, Eric Clapton and more.

Based on Landau’s 1963 Stratocaster, this Fender Mike Landau’s features include a hand-selected lightweight alder body, special “custom oval C” neck profile, custom hand-wound pickups and wiring, and a worn Fiesta Red over 3-Color Sunburst nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Other highlights include a round-laminated dark rosewood fingerboard with a 7.25” radius and 6105 frets, period-correct small headstock, five-way pickup switching and custom vintage-style tremolo bridge.

Michael Landau’s has been privileged to play on hundreds of recordings dating back to the early 1980s. With his own group, he continues to raise the bar in electric jazz, instrumental and rock guitar, among which is the Fender Mike Landau!
